Intent of design was to develop an assemblage of three building that are related in design but which vary in their mass and composition. Scattered across Brownsville, New York, these three affordable housing developments giving hints to each building through exterior and interior material selections and subtle variation of façade elements, while being integrated into their own site context. When possible, landscape elements are used at the street, setback levels, and rear yards to enhance the resident’s experience and emphasize the relationship between the three project buildings. The overall goal of the design proposal was to create affordable, long-lasting and beautiful structures through the use of simple and pragmatic building systems and approaches, and to maximize the design quality of these buildings to the extent possible within the budget parameters.
